Located a 40min drive along a scenic road in Bowness-on-Windermere this is a great attraction for little ones, set aside about an hour to go round it leaves you plenty of time to look round Bowness-on-Windermere a lovely town with plenty of nice shops and cafes. Parking is available across the road in a large car park.
Located a short walk away from Cobble Cottage along the Keswick-Threlkeld railway path Keswick museum is a great rainy day activity telling the story of Keswick and conveniently putting you in the centre of Keswick. With a reasonable cafe and a ‘I-Spy trail in nearby Fitz park it’s a great family attraction.
10mins walk from Cobble Cottage takes you to Fitz park, nestled amongst the fells on the outskirts of central Keswick; here you will find a great open space, play-park, BMX track, cafe and riverside walk. Next to the Keswick Museum makes a great short trip out.
Derwent Pencil museum is a local favourite, telling the story of graphite and lead mining in the local area and how Derwent became a hub for pencil manufacture. With on-site parking, children’s activities and a cafe and gift shop (fulfilling literally all your pencil needs!) it’s a great spot for a visit.
A gallery, cafe, shopping centre, soft play and cinema venue. Located 20mins drive just off the A66 on the way to Penrith, this is a good stopping place. The cinema shows arthouse and kids films along with various other exhibitions. The cafe does a great medium priced breakfast and the small soft play caters for younger ages (0-5) and operates in sessions that need to be booked.
Home to the UK’s only mountain forest and a short 15min scenic drive away Whinlatter forest is a great place to get out in the fresh air. For younger visitors the ’Gruffalo and Zog’ interactive walk is particularly fun. Parking onsite and a cafe and toilets makes it a great place to visit.
